About Propane Gas

Propane is one of the most widely used alternative fuels in the world. There is far more to it than simply powering your outdoor grill. Did you know Propane can power your whole home?

What is Propane Gas?

Propane gas is a type of liquefied petroleum commonly used for home heating and outdoor grilling, water heating, dryers, vehicles, appliances, and many other residential and commercial purposes that require efficient or portable heat.

Often referred to as LP-gas, LPG or liquefied petroleum gas, propane is mostly produced as a by-product of natural gas processing. It is known for being one of the cleanest burning fuels available and has been used that way for years, even before the focus on green energy.

Today, tens of millions of families throughout the United States use propane to heat their homes and run their appliances, along with over half a million farmers who rely on it to power many types of critical farming equipment.

Propane is safe, clean, reliable – and powerful.

Where does Propane come from?

Propane is a fossil fuel found naturally, alongside natural gas and oil. Propane is separated from natural gas during processing, often using refrigeration. It is not made from natural gas but is extracted from it. Propane is also extracted from crude oil using a distillation tower. Once the propane is isolated, it is pressurized, and then stored as a liquid in cylinders and tanks you see outside of residential homes, attached to propane grills and more.

What is Propane used for?

Home: Propane is commonly used for home heat, cooking, and water heat, especially in rural areas where natural gas isn’t available.

Outdoor Living: Propane is commonly used in outdoor spaces, including for grilling, patio heating and lighting, pool and spa heat, and outdoor kitchens.

Outdoor Experiences: Camping, tailgating, and RV adventurers know their outings would not be possible without a portable propane tank for heating, cooking, and more.

Farming & Industry: Propane powers many industries as well. Farmers use propane to dry crops, the construction industry uses propane for building heat during construction projects, and many industries use to power equipment like forklifts, lawnmowers and so much more.
